Stater Bros. Charities proudly announced that the 19th Annual Stater Bros. Charities Jack H. Brown Heroes Challenge presented by PepsiCo raised (over $1.2 MILLION for charities on Sunday, March 1, and Monday, March 2 at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa and Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, CA.
The event hosted 370 sponsors and special guests, including six Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, six Navy SEALs, eight professional golfers, and honorary tournament host, PGA and Champions Tour Professional and Professional Instructor, Dave Stockton. On Sunday night at the Heroes Challenge Charity Awards Banquet, Stater Bros. Charities awarded $250,000 to local non-profit organizations that are making a positive impact through their communities in Southern California. These organizations included U.S.VETS Inland Empire ($50,000 supporting hunger relief), RAD Camp ($50,000 supporting children’s well-being), Palm Springs Air Museum ($50,000 supporting education), Fisher House Southern California ($50,000 supporting health), and SEAL Legacy Foundation ($50,000 supporting veterans and active service members). Additional funding was presented to local organizations, including Hunter Lopez Memorial Foundation ($10,000) and Riverside County Sheriff's Explorer Program Post 507 ($10,000). "Thanks to our generous sponsors and the time given by our Medal of Honor recipients, Navy SEALs, and professional golfers, Stater Bros. Charities can invest in the vital work of nonprofits that provide hands-on support throughout Southern California," said Nancy Negrette, Chairman and President of Stater Bros. Charities. "We are deeply grateful for their continued support and what we’re able to achieve together.” The event culminated on Monday with the Heroes Challenge Golf Tournament, played at the 36-hole Indian Wells Golf Resort. The fun day of golf allowed Stater Bros. teammates and the event's generous corporate sponsors to rub elbows with professional golfers and American armed forces heroes while doing good for communities. Named after Stater Bros.' late Executive Chairman, the Jack H. Brown Heroes Challenge Golf Tournament celebrates Brown’s legacy of honoring those who served and continue to serve our country, in addition to his generous support of the communities served by Stater Bros. Markets. To honor those who served and sacrificed for our country, the event hosted six Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. The recipients in attendance were Kenneth J. David, Robert M. Patterson, James A. Taylor, Jay R. Vargas, Salvatore A. Giunta, and Leroy A. Petry. Also in attendance, nine professional golfers attended to support the Stater Bros. Charities Jack H. Brown Heroes Challenge. The professionals included former U.S. Ryder Cup Captain and host Dave Stockton, Donna Caponi-Byrnes, Hale Irwin, Brittany Lang, Mark Pfeil, Dave Stockton Jr., Ron Stockton, Jin Park and Dan Boever.
